Two Suspects Appear in Court Over Murder of NPA Driver

Two men have appeared in court facing murder and armed robbery charges following the killing of a driver employed by the National Prosecuting Authority, whose body was discovered in a bush near Lake Chivero in Zvimba days after he was reported missing.

Tawanda Ruzvidzo (38) and Edmond Muzuva (32) appeared before Harare magistrate Ruth Moyo via hospital remand.

Prosecutor Lawrence Gangarahwe told the court that the suspects allegedly hatched a plan on March 12 to rob unsuspecting motorists.

The court heard that the duo posed as passengers at Whitehouse bus terminus seeking transport to Norton.

At around 9:30 pm, they boarded a company-owned Kia Picanto driven by Shingirayi Chikosha (41), an NPA driver.

While travelling, the suspects allegedly strangled Chikosha to death before dumping his body in a bush near Lake Chivero. They then stole his personal belongings and the company vehicle, which was later abandoned in Chegutu.

Using the stolen car, the accused allegedly picked up three victims in Chinhoyi, robbed them at knifepoint, and stole cash and valuables worth more than US$1,690.

The victims were reportedly ordered to strip naked before being left stranded. They later sought assistance and reported the incident to the police.

Investigations subsequently led to the arrest of the two suspects, bringing the alleged crime spree to an end.

The matter remains before the courts.
