
A 25-year-old man from Ushewekunze, Harare, has appeared in court facing charges of murder and motor vehicle theft after allegedly stabbing a 52-year-old man to death and dismantling his vehicle in a shocking case that has left the community reeling.
Paul Chadenga (25), of House Number 4014 Ushewekunze, appeared before the court in connection with the murder of Shepherd Mugabe, also a resident of Ushewekunze.
Mugabe was reported missing by his wife on March 3, 2026, after he failed to return home from a trip to Cholo Farm in Beatrice.
According to police, Chadenga had hired Mugabe’s silver Nissan AD Van on March 2, 2026, and allegedly stabbed him to death with a screwdriver while they were at Cholo Farm. He is further accused of tying up the body and dumping it in a nearby maize field before driving the vehicle to a house in Stoneridge, Harare.

At the house, Chadenga allegedly began dismantling the vehicle, removing parts including the engine and gearbox, which he reportedly fitted into his own vehicle.
The body was discovered on March 9, 2026, by villagers, who alerted the police.
Detectives from the CID Vehicle Theft Squad in Harare later recovered the stolen vehicle and arrested Chadenga at a house in Mkoba 14, Gweru, on March 6, 2026.
The State is being represented by Polite Chikiwa.
