
A 28-year-old man, Liberty Mukanhairi of Budiriro 5B, appeared before the Harare Magistrates’ Court facing charges of robbery and assault.
The complainant, Donmark Muponda ,31, told the court that on January 25, 2026, he was at the OK Budiriro 5 bus stop with friends when Mukanhairi and four accomplices allegedly attacked them.
One of the assailants reportedly produced a firearm and pointed it at Muponda and his friends, prompting them to flee and leaving Muponda behind.
The court heard that Mukanhairi allegedly struck Muponda on the left leg with an iron bar, forcibly took his jacket, and hit him in the eye with a pistol before searching him.
The attackers allegedly stole US$87 in cash and a Samsung Note 10 cellphone.
In a separate incident, Mukanhairi is also accused of assaulting Elton Dhlamini, 25, on January 12, 2026, at Budiriro Shopping Centre.

Dhlamini alleged that Mukanhairi and an accomplice accused him of stalking the accomplice’s wife before force-marching him to the accomplice’s residence.
It is alleged that Mukanhairi produced a firearm and fired three shots into the air, causing members of the public to flee.
Mukanhairi and his accomplice allegedly assaulted Dhlamini using fists, booted feet, and open hands, resulting in injuries to his mouth.
Dhlamini reported the matter to the police, leading to Mukanhairi’s arrest on January 30, 2026, by detectives from CID Homicide Harare at Ox City Sports Bar along Kaguvi Street, Harare.
A search conducted upon arrest reportedly recovered a 9mm P.A.K AK-SA ARMS AK14 firearm and a spent blank cartridge case.
Mukanhairi is expected to return to court on February 12, 2026.
