Zimbabwe Nears Record 300 Million Kg Tobacco Mark

ZimNow Reporter

Zimbabwe is on the brink of a historic achievement in its tobacco industry, with sales reaching an impressive 253,122,136 kilograms by the 60th day of the 2025 marketing season.

This figure represents 84.37% of the country’s ambitious 300 million kilogram target — a milestone that, if achieved, would mark the most successful tobacco season in Zimbabwe’s history.

The nation’s momentum has been building rapidly, especially after a key turning point on 28 May when cumulative sales hit 237.3 million kilograms. That figure alone surpassed the total output of the entire 2024 season, which stood at 232 million kilograms. With more than two months remaining before the season officially ends around 10 September, Zimbabwe is poised to shatter previous records.

As of 23 May, Zimbabwe had exported 56.76 million kilograms of tobacco, generating US$350.67 million in export earnings. Meanwhile, local growers have already earned US$778.38 million from domestic sales, underlining the strong demand and high prices that Zimbabwean tobacco continues to command on the international market.
